Stay Warm this winter and save Fuel
This winter, don’t hibernate — insulate! We can provide you with the best solution for your drafty windows and doors. With layered window treatments, heat lo$$ is reduced and the rooms stay cozy and comfortable.
Start with the treatment closest to the window to trap the cold air and prevent it from rushing down and across the floor to nip at their toes. Lined and flannel interlined flat or tucked (front or back) Roman shades provide the best barrier and are easily operated with a clutch system. Hunter Douglas Duette honeycomb pleated shades are an effective alternative to Roman shades. Their newest line Architella offers energy efficiency as well as sound absorption.
Next, add more layers with lined and interlined draperies on a standard traverse rod or track. Be sure to return the draperies to the wall to seal the sides of the windows and doors. Any pleated heading works well, from traditional three-fold French pleat, Euro pleat or two fold Butterfly style, to an inverted pleat or back tuck. Hang the draperies below the rod for ease of movement and closer stackback to let the sunshine in during the day on the south side.
Finally, crown the design with a closed top-and-side upholstered wood cornice or soft cornice or pelmet style valance. This further seals the window or door and stops that cold air from re-entering the room above the treatments. Using the following rules for top treatments keeps everything in the proper proportion:
- Treatments mounted above window; the top treatment is 1/6 of total treatment length
- Treatments mounted at ceiling; the top treatment is 1/5 of total treatment length
Not only do all these layers function well and look good, whether open or closed, they provide you with the opportunity to propose more than just a shade or stationary panels, thus adding to your bottom line
